Conservation is an issue everyone feels passionately about on some level - for without conservation, soon there will be nothing left for us to conserve. Whilst we all contribute in some way, from picking up that piece of litter to recycling every fortnight, one man has gone an extra mile to raise both funds and awareness for his pet cause of marine conservation.
Extreme Pete, local Manly daredevil and architect, took off with 253 other competitors under Sydney Harbour Bridge to complete the 11-kilometre Manly Wharf Bridge to Beach challenge, finishing in a very respectable two hours and five minutes. The boat, which was constructed using 1,000 discarded plastic bottles straight from Sydney Harbour, thankfully managed to make the journey in one piece.
This feat was arranged by the SEA LIFE Conservation Fund and was intended to draw attention to the problems of plastic pollution and to gather signatures for the National Container Deposit Scheme - which is set to be decided upon next month. So if you are passionate about conservation or you just want to learn more, please follow the link to find out about SEA LIFE Conservation Fund and the efforts of our enthusiastic team.
