Myrtle the turtle was rescued in 2013 after she was involved in a boating accident and was nursed back to heath by the team at SEA LIFE Manly Sanctuary. She recovered from her wounds, but air became trapped under her shell as it healed, causing her to float. She was fitted with weight plates to allow her to swim with ease!
Myrtle was the first creature to be moved into the new Day and Night on the Reef Exhibit! To help Myrtle settle in, Head Curator, Chris Brown (and his daughters) camped out at the aquarium for the night and monitored Myrtle’s behaviour to ensure she settled in smoothly.
Dave and Chong are two of our resident turtles here in Sydney. They are fed 3 times a week and cannot get enough of squid! It's their favourite! These guys both weigh between 150 - 200 kg and are over 25 years old! Try and spot them at Turtle Beach in the Day and Night on the Reef Exhibit!
Did you know that turtles are one of the oldest reptiles in the world? They have been around for over 200 million years. That’s before dinosaurs were extinct - wow! Want more fun facts about turtles? Click here.
